CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say a man who shot himself in the hand Tuesday morning in downtown Charleston has been charged with filing a false police report.
Officials say 20-year-old Marquise Edwards was trying to open the cylinder of a handgun when he accidentally shot himself in the hand. The incident occurred in the area of America Street and Amherst Street around 9:18 a.m.
A release states Edwards originally told police a man pointed a handgun at his face, and he was shot when he pushed the gun away.
Police say Edwards later admitted the wound was self-inflicted.
The investigation continues.
