Summerville to honor two men for fire rescue efforts

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Town of Summerville is honoring two men Wednesday night for their rescue efforts during an apartment fire.

The town council will honor Mike Hassan and Tad Steadman at a council meeting tonight for their heroic efforts during a fire at the Westubury Mews Apartment Complex last month.  Officials say the two sprung into action when the fire broke out in the early morning hours, knocking on doors and waking up neighbors.

Investigators believe the fire started on a second floor porch.  Eleven of the twelve units affected by the fire were occupied when the flames broke out, leaving 19 adults and five children without a home.

The town council meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Summerville Municipal Complex.
