Mt. Pleasant to increase property taxes, fees to improve infrastructure

Mount Pleasant Town Council voted Tuesday night to increase stormwater utility fees and property taxes in order to improve infrastructure.

The stormwater utility fee will increase from $30 to $60 annually, while the property tax increase will cost $45 annually for the average sale price of a Mt. Pleasant home valued at $373,035.

The combined increase will be $75 per household.

Officials say the price adjustments will generate an estimated $3.25 million for capital improvement projects. These projects include maintaining stormwater pipes, roads and sidewalks, and pavement preservation projects.

Some of the funds will also go towards new road projects.
