BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - An accident in the east-bound side of I-526 that temporarily shut down traffic has been cleared, according to police.
According to the SCDOT, the accident happened in the right lane of the interstate near mile marker 23 Wednesday afternoon. That is located near the Charleston and Berkeley County line between the Don Hold Bridge and Clements Ferry Road.
Shortly after the crash, Live 5 Traffic Tracker showed traffic congestion between Virginia Avenue and Clements Ferry Road with an average speed ranging from 5 to 10 m.p.h. shortly after 3:00 p.m. A traffic camera shot showed heavy congestion at the same time in the east-bound side of the Don Holt Bridge near mile marker 21.
Though traffic is moving again, police report heavy congestion in the area.
There was no immediate word on injuries.
