GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler said it was "another bold step forward" at a ceremony to break ground on the city's new fire station.
City councilmen gathered with shovels in hand to take the first steps in the construction of the new station on Button Hall Avenue.
The groundbreaking also recognized the beginning of construction on another station across town on Old Mount Holley Road.
The mayor said he believes the 34,000 foot facility is just an example of the proactive nature of the city.
"We're breaking ground today for two additional fire stations," Heitzler said."And then we're going to have to build two more after that. That's how fast Goose Creek is growing and that's how conscientious city council is as far as addressing safety needs first."
More than $13 million will be spent to build the two stations.
