Police arrest N. Charleston man accused of raping minor

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police say a 29-year-old man accused of repeatedly raping a young girl has been arrested.

Jerrod Omar Middleton of North Charleston was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11 and one count of second degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to an incident report, the victim, a 13-year-old girl, told a school official on February 14 that Middleton had been "raping" her for about six years.

The victim later told a school resource officer that Middleton began to touch her inappropriately the previous evening, but stopped after she begged him to quit.

The report states the victim told officials Middleton threatened to kill her or her friend if they ever told anyone what was happening, and she was afraid to go home.

The school resource office reportedly called the Department of Social Services to place the victim and her brother in Emergency Protective Custody.
