Alternatives to March Madness in this week's 5 Around Town

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Welcome to the first weekend of Spring 2014! If you're looking for a few ideas to spend while March Madness takes over the television, here's a look at 5 Around Town.


This weekend, you can gain a better understanding of just how fortunate we are in America when it comes to our water supply. The 2014 Walk For Water is Saturday, March 21, 2014. It starts at Cannon Park in downtown Charleston at 9:00 a.m. Participants will carry an empty bucket from Cannon Park to White Point Gardens at The Battery. They will fill their buckets with water and then return to Cannon Park. The 3.5-mile walk is designed to give you an idea what some people go through everyday just to get fresh water. Take your pets out to Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant for a festival designed just for them. The annual Pet Fest is back on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days. Charleston County Parks puts on the festival with exhibits and demonstrations like fFrisbeedogs and dock diving. Animal rescue and adoption groups will also be there if you are thinking about getting a pet. The Charleston Battery open the 2014 USL PRO season Saturday night by hosting Orlando City at Blackbaud Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. The Battery will be looking for revenge against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year. Orlando City went on the win the championship.
