BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (AP/WCSC) - A woman has been charged with felony DUI following a Saturday night wreck that took the life of her 67-year-old father, according to officials.
Jamie Shuler was arrested Saturday and charged with driving under suspension, open container in motor vehicle, and felony DUI with great bodily injury.
According to Highway Patrol, a GMC Yukon and a Chevy pickup driven by Jamie Shuler were both traveling north on Highway 45 around 6:55 p.m. As the Yukon slowed to make a left turn into a driveway, the truck attempted to pass the SUV in a no pass zone, sideswiping the vehicle.
Both vehicles ended up in a ditch as a result of the collision, troopers report.
Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury says the front seat passenger in the truck, 67-year-old James Shuler of Jamestown, was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force body trauma. Shuler was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Salisbury.
The coroner says four others were transported to a nearby hospital.
Jamie Shuler is being held at the Hill Finklea Detention Center.
