CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The hired hitman and star witness in a murder-for-hire trial has been sentenced to 4 years behind bars.
Aaron Wilkinson was sentenced Wednesday afternoon. In addition to his prison term, Wilkinson must also receive 500 hours of mental health treatment.
Wilkinson was the star witness in a murder-for-hire plot to kill a Mount Pleasant woman. He pleaded guilty in January.
Prosecutors say he was hired as a hitman last April, but exposed the plot to police instead of going through with it. Wilkinson also testified against Chris Latham and Wendy Moore, the couple who hired him and another ex-con to kill Latham's wife, according to investigators.
Latham and Moore were found guilty last month, and will be sentenced later.
In Wilkinson' sentencing hearing on Monday, the target in the murder-for-hire plot, Nancy Cannon, and her daughter spoke out thanking Wilkinson for spoiling the plan.
