Cops: Summerville man exposes himself after offering job to woman

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Summerville man was arrested Wednesday on sex and assault charges after the victim told police he exposed himself to her after offering her a job.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office charged 41-year-old James Mercado Enriquez with indecent exposure, communicating obscene messages or material and assault and battery third degree.

According to the incident report, the victim told police that Enriquez approached her in the parking lot of a Summerville pet store on the afternoon of March 6, and asked if she knew anything about cats. The victim told police that they struck up a conversation, during which Enriquez offered her a job with his alleged fiber optic company.

The report states that the victim said he told her he wanted to complete paperwork for the hire quickly and asked if they could travel to a West Ashley business. The victim told police she initially suggested that they take separate vehicles, but that he persuaded her to let him ride in her vehicle. Once they arrived at the location, Enriquez told her he was waiting for his business partner to arrive, the report alleges, but that after thirty minutes, the victim told him she didn't want to wait any longer.

She told police that on the way back to the pet store parking lot, Enriquez touched her, showed her explicit images stored on his cell phone and performed a sex act despite her demands that he stop.

She also told police that when they arrived at the parking lot, he pulled her closer to him and kissed her on the cheek before exiting her vehicle and then tried to lure her into his car. The victim also told police that the following day, he began calling her and sending her text messages, leading her to change her cell phone number.

The report also states that when the victim got home the night of the alleged assault, she began searching the internet and discovered that the man was a registered sex offender in Dorchester County. At that point, the report states, she contacted Summerville Police.

The victim was presented with a photographic lineup and positively identified Enriquez as the man she had met that night.
