Family-friendly events fill this weekend's 5 Around Town

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -     The top female tennis stars roll into the Lowcountry this weekend. Plus, get ready for a two-day beach party as we take a look at 5 Around Town.


    The Family Circle Cup gets underway this weekend with the players draw Saturday afternoon from 3-4 p.m. on the Grand Lawn. This is also family weekend with two day of fun on the grounds from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. both days. Admission is $10 for adults and kids 12 and under get in free. Qualifying matches start at 10:00 both days. Check out familycirclecup.com for the complete event schedule.

    You can support literacy in the Palmetto State and the "Readers 2 Leaders" campaign with the inaugural Book'n It 5K. The Fun Run and Walk is at Palmetto Islands County Park, Saturday at 9 a.m. Registration will be available on the day of the event for $20 for adults and $10 for kids. You're also encouraged to bring a book to donate to the cause. The Book'n It 5K website has more information on the Readers 2 Leaders campaign and how to register for the event.


    Cyclists will be racing on a seemingly endless loop in Park Circle this weekend. Lowcountry Racing is holding the Park Circle Criterium, with races on Montague Avenue on Saturday and around Quarterman Park on Sunday. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at DIG in the Park and continues up until 30 minutes before race times. The first races start at 8:00 a.m. both days. You will need a racing license for the higher categories. If you don't already have one, a 1-day license can be purchased on site for $15. Entry for most races is $35.
