Report: Suspects stole victim's BMW after feigning car trouble

GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - Georgetown County deputies are searching for two suspects who stole a person's vehicle at gunpoint after pretending their car was overheating.

Officials say the incident took place around 1:30 p.m. on March 20 on the 3800 block of Powell Road in the Sampit Community.

The victim told police the two suspects claimed their car overheated and asked for water. When the victim exited his vehicle to help, both suspects got out of their car with one of them holding a handgun.

As the victim ran for safety, deputies say one of the suspects hopped in the victim's white 2000 BMW 740iL while the other got in the "overheated" vehicle, and both drove south on Powell Road towards Hwy. 17 South.

The suspects' vehicle is described as a gold in color 1990's model Honda with the front bumper barely attached.

The victim's BMW has license plate number JLW202.

If you have any information about this incident, call the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at 843-546-5101.
