NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - A first grader at Burns Elementary School was suspended for the day for bringing a flare gun to school, North Charleston Police say.
According to a police report, a classmate told a teacher the student had the gun in his book bag and had taken it out to show it to him. The classmate said the student never pointed it at him or threatened him with it.
Police found the flare gun was unloaded, the report states.
The child's mother was called to school and told police the flare gun had been at her own mother's house and she had seen her son playing with it Wednesday, but did not realize he brought it home or placed it in his book bag to take to school.
The student was suspended for the rest of the day, the report states, but no charges were filed.
