Coastal Carolina scored five early runs to work past Charleston Southern for an 8-2 win in the series finale on Sunday at Pelicans Park.
Charleston Southern’s Alex Tomasovich matched the longest hitting streak in Division 1 this season at 23 games.
Tomasovich doubled to lead off the seventh and scored the Buccaneers’ second run on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Ison. He finished 1-for-5 and scored a run.
Coastal improves to 12-16 overall and 4-5 in the Big South. CSU falls to 16-14 overall and 2-7 in the league.
CSU jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first as Bobby Ison singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Chase Shelton off of CCU starter Seth Lamando (WP, 2-1).
Lamando worked six innings and scattered seven hits to pick up his second win.
The Chanticleers scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead, and added three more runs in the third to put the Bucs in a hole early. Riley Norton and Steven Whitaker had RBI singles in the second. CCU’s Kyle Jackson singled home a run and North added his second RBI single to extend the lead in the third.
CCU first baseman Zach Remillard went 4-for-5 and scored twice. Norton finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and also scored two runs.
Ison was 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the CSU attack.
Starter Andrew Tomasovich (LP, 3-2) gave up eight hits and five earned runs in taking the loss. Reliever Denis Buckley worked two scoreless innings for CSU.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday against Savanna State at 6 p.m. at CSU Ballpark. The Bucs travel to Savannah State on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. tilt.
