CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - ?
Increased security efforts at the 2014 Cooper River Bridge Run will extend to the waters, as the Coast Guard will be on hand to patrol the Cooper River on April 5.
According to a release, a security zone will reach from 200 yards north of the Ravenel Bridge extending south to a line between the Charleston Maritime Center and the USS Yorktown. The zone will take effect from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Officials say the security zone is needed for the safety of the runners and the public, and will be patrolled by federal, state, and local agencies.
During this time, people and vessels will not be able to enter, pass through, anchor, or remain within the security zone unless authorized by the Coast Guard.
