CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators with the Charleston Police Department say they have arrested a West Ashley man accused in an armed robbery in downtown Charleston.
Authorities charged 24-year-old Michael Nickens of Sequioa Street with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
A police report states as the victim was entering her porch, she was approached by a man armed with a gun who told her to open the door to her apartment.
The victim said she refused and sprayed the suspect in his face with pepper spray which she had on her key ring. Police say the suspect then ran into the backyard, but then returned to the porch and grabbed the victim's purse.
Nickens was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
