CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - SCE&G officials say a gas leak in downtown Charleston has been secured, and crews are currently working to repair the line.
According to Charleston Fire Department Captain Ryan Kunitzer, crews responded to a gas leak in the 880 block of King Street around 9:26 a.m.
Kim Asbill with SCE&G says a contractor dug into a 5/8" plastic service line, resulting in the leak. The leak was sealed at 10:24 a.m. and repairs are underway.
King Street was closed between Huger Street and Congress Street while crews worked to seal the leak, but the road has since been reopened, according to Asbill.
North Charleston Fire Department is also assisting, Kunitzer says.
