Bill makes it harder for repeat offenders to get bond

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - It will now be harder for repeat offenders to get bond. Gov. Nikki Haley signed Senate Bill 19 on Tuesday.

Under the bill, a violent offender who is arrested again will have to wait in jail for a circuit judge to set bond.

Usually that takes longer than a magistrate judge.

Currently, a magistrate judge could grant bond within 24 hours of the new arrest, but again under this new bill that won't be the case.
