Lanes reopened on Savannah Highway after multi-car accident

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - UPDATE: All lanes on Savannah Highway reopened Thursday morning after a multi-car accident caused all lanes to be shut down. 

Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch confirms an accident on Savannah Highway has closed both lanes heading into West Ashley from Ravenel. 

Authorities say crews are on the scene of an accident involving multiple cars on Savannah Highway near Clemson USDA Agricultural Research Services. The accident initially resulted in the complete shut down of Savannah Hwy., but the lanes into West Ashley from Ravenel have since been reopened.

The accident, which reportedly involves an overturned vehicle, has resulted in major traffic backups in both directions.
