WAYNESBORO, GA (WFXG) -

Damage from a drive-by shooting that killed Devin Bonner, 26, and injured Keleon Burdette, 25, can be seen in several houses on East 11th Street.

Adam Sowell is still in shock over the events that took place early Monday morning.

"It's just a tragedy that it happened like this," Sowell said.

Sowell and his father heard gunshots around 1 a.m. Monday. Later that afternoon, Sowell found out one of the victims was a high school classmate of his.

"A friend of mine from Bonner's family told me that it was him that had passed in the shooting," Sowell said. "I wouldn't think that he would be the type of person that would be involved in this at all."

There are bullet holes in four neighbors' houses and cars, with windows shot out in some of the vehicles. Sowell says with a daycare and with several families with children living on the street, the damage could have been much worse.

"If this had happened during the daytime, there's no telling who could have been hurt," he said. "They could have hurt kids. They could have hurt adults. There could have been a whole lot worse with all the bullets they were letting out."

He hopes whoever is responsible for the shooting is caught, and that the neighborhood can be safe again.

"I just hope that the neighborhood goes back to the way it used to be," Sowell said. "Whenever I was a kid, you didn't have to worry about being outside and being shot.

Waynesboro police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are still looking for the shooters. If anyone has information they're encouraged to call the Waynesboro Police Department at 706-554-8029.
