WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger was spotted Tuesday night at a forum for Republican candidates running for local, state and federal offices.

Berger stood in the rear of the auditorium at New Hanover County's Northeast Library, while GOP candidates for the Seventh Congressional District and the U.S. Senate answered questions from the audience and members of the Lower Cape Fear Republican Women's Club.

When asked if he was planning to attend any County Commissioners' meetings before his term ends later this year, Berger said he has been out of state getting treatment for a medical condition, and he is working toward trying to attend meetings in the future.

Berger has not attended any meetings since he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in February of DWI and possession of a schedule 2 narcotic. Fellow commissioners used a process called "amotion" to kick Berger from the Board in 2013, only to have a judge's ruling re-instate him in September.
