Body found near Harley-Davidson in Hanover

Posted: Updated:
HANOVER, VA (WWBT) -

A man was found dead behind the Harley Davidson shop on Washington Highway in Hanover County. Authorities are calling this a death investigation. Right now, it's unclear just how the man died.

Early Wednesday, the area behind the building was an active crime scene, blocked off by sheriff's cars as detectives tried to figure out exactly what happened.

Gary Busic made the gruesome discovery when he got to work at the Harley-Davidson.

"Soon as I pulled up, I saw the gentleman laying in the grass," he said.

Busic, who was a police officer for 11 years, took a closer look.

"I could tell from the car his skin was kind of yellowish," he described. "Got out of the car, got about two feet from him, his eyes were open."

We're told the man looks to be in his mid to late 50s.

"I yelled at him a couple times," he recalled. "He obviously didn't move. At that point, I knew that he was deceased."

Busic called 911.

Right now, authorities are only saying this is a death investigation, all of which are thought to be "suspicious" until they determine a cause of death. We've learned there was no visible sign on the body of what may have lead to the man's death.

"His knuckles were scraped," Busic explained. "That was the only thing I noticed and his leg was bent behind him."

At this point, the Hanover Sheriff's Office wouldn't confirm or deny any kind of foul play.

Right now, authorities are waiting on the medical examiner to determine the identity and cause of death.
