Report: Inmates planned diversion at elementary school to rob bank

Officials with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office say three inmates planned to rob a bank by creating a diversion at an elementary school.

Investigators charged Ryan Bonneau of North Charleston, Willie Edwards of Pawleys Island and Michael Hart of Georgetown with one count of criminal conspiracy. The three are currently locked up at the Georgetown County Detention Center.

According to authorities, an investigation was determined that the three suspects planned to create a diversion at the Waccamaw Elementary School’s rear sports field and adjoining parking lot, in areas unoccupied by students.

Authorities say the diversion was intended to distract sheriff’s deputies from a bank robbery which was planned to occur at Wells Fargo Bank, located at 13272 Ocean Highway in the Litchfield Community of Georgetown County.

Investigators say they determined the three suspects acted together without any external assistance to plan and potentially execute this operation. A report states that there was no information that exists to suggest additional participants would execute the plan.
