Man convicted in Kate Waring's death will not receive new trial

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The man convicted in the death of a young woman will not be getting a new trial.

Ethan Mack argued that his lawyer didn't do a good enough job defending him. He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the 2009 death of 28-year-old Kate Waring.

A judge has denied Mack's request for a new trial.

Prosecutors say Mack and his wife tortured waring with a stun gun and drowned her in a tub at a James Island apartment. Her body was found four months later on Wadmalaw island.

Mack is currently serving a 25 year sentence.
