NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Investigators in North Charleston say a man who stabbed to death one person and injured two others had been dragged away from a car by the victims and assaulted before the stabbing occurred Friday morning.
The North Charleston Police Department reported that officers were called to a home in the 5700 block of Deidrich Street at Dorchester Village Mobile Home Park shortly before 3 a.m. for reports of a stabbing.
Officers reportedly arrived to find a man lying dead in the roadway and two others suffering from knife wounds.
According to police, investigators learned that the three stabbing victims approached a vehicle where the stabbing suspect and a female subject were in.
Police say at some point, the three victims opened the door and began to assault the suspect. A report states the suspect was dragged from his vehicle to the roadway where he began to use a knife that he retrieved from his vehicle.
Investigators say the suspect stabbed one victim, who died on scene, and stabbed the other two victims who were treated for multiple lacerations, but have since been released. The Charleston County Coroner's Office identified the fatal stabbing victim as 30-year-old Steward Pelfrey.
Police say at this time no charges have been filed.
Officials with the NCPD say they are continuing the investigation.
Witnesses had reported to authorities that the incident stemmed from a domestic-related altercation between the suspect and his ex-girlfriend.
