CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A kayaker who was reported missing Thursday night was found safe earlier this morning, according to the US Coast Guard Charleston Sector.
Authorities say the missing 53-year-old kayaker was located by helicopter near Morris Island around 7:15 a.m.
According to a release, the man left his home Thursday around 10:30 a.m. for a kayak trip in the Charleston Harbor, but was reported missing by his wife when he did not return.
Officials with the Coast Guard say they had a boat out all night looking for him, and sent the helicopter out for the search when the sun came up this morning.
The kayaker, who was found in good condition, told authorities his paddle broke, preventing him from being able to return to shore.
After locating the missing man, the helicopter reportedly landed on a nearby beach, picked him up, and transported him to the Johns Island Airport where he was going to meet his wife.
