Goose Creek police are searching for leads after a playground jungle gym went up in flames Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say crews arrived at FairFax Park just after 4 p.m. to find a large plastic jungle gym fully engulfed in flames with heavy, black smoke coming from the area. The park was immediately evacuated and Goose Creek Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze.
According to an incident report, there were no overhead power lines or other sources that could have caused the fire in the area, and it "was apparent that this was a criminal act."
Police say two witnesses reported seeing three young males fleeing towards North Aylesbury Road. Several other witnesses told police they did not see any suspicious activity in the area during the incident.
The playground equipment was completely destroyed, with damages estimated at $5,000, the report states.
