The man questioned in a deadly stabbing told police an altercation lead to a fatal stabbing outside a home in North Charleston early Friday morning.
The incident happened at a home on Deidrich Street at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to a police report.
Stewart Edward Pelfrey, 30, died on the scene, the report states. Two others at the scene were transported to MUSC and treated, police say.
Police say the fourth stabbing victim said he went to the home to pick up one girl and speak to his girlfriend. While talking to his girlfriend in his car, he told police, a group of men punched him and pulled him from the vehicle.
The man said he grabbed a knife he kept in his car for protection and went to the ground. As the others hit and kicked him, he says, he started swinging the knife, slashing his assailants, according to the police report. The man told police he knew he stabbed at least one person in the chest before rushing back to his vehicle and fleeing the scene.
It wasn't until he arrived at his mother's home that he realized he had a deep cut in his leg and on his wrist, the report states. He was transported to MUSC and treated for his injuries, police say.
The reason for the apparent altercation was unclear.
Police are still investigating the incident.
