ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A 31-year-old Barnwell County man is behind bars after authorities say he shot a motorist following a traffic accident in Orangeburg County.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff's has charged Joseph Maurice Holman with attempted murder.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said it all started when his officers were called to a location in the roadway off Hebrard Road Highway 321 in Norway Saturday night.
"Our investigation indicates the 43-year-old victim and Joseph Maurice Holman were involved in a traffic collision," Ravenell said.
According to the sheriff's office, Holman and the victim then both got out of their vehicles and began to argue. Authorities say that's when Holman shot the victim. Ravenell said when Holman left the scene, the victim followed him.
Officers were notified by officials in Bamberg County that a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle was on fire near Peanut Road, a short distance from the shooting location.
Holman was arrested Saturday after an extensive search.
Authorities say the victim continues to receive medical treatment.
