College of Charleston sophomore pitcher Eric Bauer was named the CAA Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The award was the first conference honor for the sophomore right-handed pitcher and the sixth CAA award for CofC in the last four weeks. College of Charleston has won a league-best 10 CAA weekly awards in 2014.
A native of Longwood, Fla., Bauer had a spectacular week, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched. In two outings, he allowed just three hits and no runs while totaling eight strikeouts.
Last Wednesday, Bauer recorded a quality start in a 6.2-inning scoreless outing, scattering three hits and striking out a career-high six batters in a 5-3 win at Georgia Southern. He then came out of the bullpen on Sunday and shut down Bethune-Cookman for 2.2 innings, as CofC rallied to take its third-straight extra-inning walk-off victory.
Bauer has been a welcome re-addition to the CofC pitching staff after missing nearly two months of play with a wrist injury. On the season, he sports a 4-0 record with a 1.85 ERA. CofC’s pitching staff currently leads the CAA with a 2.83 team ERA.
