CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police have arrested a 21-year-old North Charleston man accused of attacking and robbing a woman outside a downtown Charleston home.

The Charleston Police Department arrested Monterio Brown on Tuesday and charged him with strong armed robbery.

Brown's arrest stems from a March 19 incident on Magazine Street.

Investigators say around 10 p.m. while the victim was walking on Magazine Street, she noticed a man walking behind her, and he appeared to be talking on his cell phone.

The victim said felt nervous so she began to walk slowly so the man could walk past her, and he did.

The victim reported that she entered her driveway and stopped to get her keys out of her purse. That’s when the suspect struck her on the top of her head with a closed fist and grabbed her purse, according to police.

She then kneed the suspect in the groin and pushed him away. The suspect then fled the area with her purse.
