SWAT, NCPD surround apartment building, investigate shots fired

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department and SWAT surrounded an apartment complex in North Charleston Wednesday afternoon following reports of gunshots.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., officers responded to an apartment building off Apartment Boulevard near Dorchester Road, according to police Spokesman Spencer Pryor.

Deputies found a door kicked in and entered the unit, Pryor said. No one was found inside the apartment but several shell casings were found.

Witnesses told police they saw male subjects running from the area right after shots were fired.

Police detained one person on the scene, but no arrests have been made and no victims have been located.

CCSD school officials say Lambs Elementary and Hunley Park were on lockdown due to the police activity, but has since dismissed its students.

According to CCSD, the schools were under code yellow administrative lockdown, a precautionary step the district takes.

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
