Mechanic falls through roof and crashes into a forklift at auto shop

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Emergency officials say a mechanic who was patching up a hole atop an auto shop fell through the roof and landed on a forklift on Tuesday.

The Colleton County Fire and Rescue Department reported the 53-year-old man fell 20 feet through the roof of the Walterboro Truck & Equipment Repair shop on 1203 North Jefferies Blvd.

Authorities say the man then landed on a fork lift and struck his head on a transmission.

Emergency crews say the man was conscious when they arrived, and complained of pain from multiple traumatic injuries.

He was transported to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center and flown to the trauma center at the Medical University of South Carolina.
