'Grossly intoxicated' man claims women led him to drug dealers' trap

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities in Beaufort County say they are investigating after a man, who was found heavily intoxicated in a hospital, claimed he was attacked by drug dealers after two women led him to a road on Hilton Head Island.

It all started when deputies responded to Hilton Head Medical Center just after 5 a.m. on Friday for a patient causing a disturbance. Investigators met with a 21-year-old man who appeared to be "grossly intoxicated."

The victim said around 3 a.m., he rode to the area of Mitchelville Road with two female acquaintances who were interested in purchasing drugs.

According to the victim, when they reached their destination, the women got out of the victim's vehicle and met with two men in a dark blue sports car.

A report states the two men approached the victim, pulled him out of the car and began assaulting him. The victim told deputies that the suspects then ripped off his shoes and pants, and stole his wallet and cell phone.

The sheriff's office says the victim ran away and began knocking on doors of homes in the area until he was able to use a phone to call a family member.

Deputies reported searching the area where the incident happened, but were unable to locate any evidence of the attack, and residents reported not hearing any commotion.

The victim was treated for several minor abrasions and released.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
