CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - An inmate at the Charleston County Detention Center is facing a felony charge after helping another inmate commit suicide earlier this year, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Michael Robert Bixby, 30, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of assisted suicide. SLED officials say Bixby's arrest is in connection with the March 24 death of Matthew Glidden.
According to an affidavit, Bixby strangled Glidden to death while the two were in their cell.
Records state detention center officials asked SLED to investigate Glidden's death. On May 2, Bixby reportedly admitted to assisting Glidden in committing suicide.
Glidden was arrested in May 2013 and was being held at the detention center on two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and committing a lewd act on a child.
