DANIEL ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A Johns Island man crossing Clements Ferry Road on Daniel Island was struck and killed early Friday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian was 22-year-old James Allen Clarkin, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.
Authorities say Clarkin was walking on Clements Ferry Road at Bradbury Lane near Jack Primus Road when he was struck at approximately 5:15 a.m. by a 2013 pickup truck traveling north. Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly said Clarkin was wearing dark clothing.
Salisbury said Clarkin was pronounced dead on the scene and the death has been ruled an accident.
The Berkeley County Coroner's Office and the Highway Patrol investigated the incident. Berkeley County Fire Department also responded.
