They have skills learned on the front lines, and now some veterans have a new craft – sailing.
Ten veterans, who were injured while serving overseas, were in Charleston this week for a sailing clinic. The three-day session was taught by volunteers with the College of Charleston Sailing.
The program was a part of Hope for the Warriors, a national non-profit that seeks to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty.
According to Hope for the Warriors, this was their first sailing venture to the southeastern coast. Participants used both conventional and adaptive sailing equipment to catch some wind.
