Tallahassee, FL -

The College of Charleston women’s golf team is 22nd after the conclusion of the second round of tournament play at the 2014 NCAA Division I East Regional Championship held at the SouthWood Golf Club.

Freshman Laura Fuenfstueck (Frankfurt, Germany) shot a 2-over par 74 and is the Cougars’ current leader at the 54-hole regional competition site hosted by Florida State. She is tied for 55th at +5.

CofC tried to gain some ground after shooting 11-over during the opening round. The squad hit a rough patch through the first nine holes, but saw some lower scores after the turn with a two-day total of 299-308—607 (+31).

No. 12-ranked Vanderbilt continues to lead the 24-team field comprised of 17 Top 50-ranked schools in the country at 10-under. No. 2 Duke trails the Commodores by six strokes (-4) followed by No. 5 South Carolina and No. 34 Tulane in a tie for third (-2) and No. 20 Virginia in fifth (-1).

“We were pressing for more than we really needed to do, instead of playing and having fun out there today,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “The conditions were tougher with the winds picking up, but we have to compete better. We hit it fairly well, but our putters were ice cold. We will be in this position (of making an NCAA Regional) again and we need to learn and understand what it takes to compete in this type of tournament.”

The Cougars will be paired with Murray State and Alabama State in tomorrow’s final round and will start off the 10th tee at 1:10 p.m. (ET). Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com.
