LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The Laurens County Sheriff's Office said an elderly man faces several charges after deputies said he pulled a gun on emergency responders when they arrived at the scene of a car crash late Friday night.
According to Highway Patrol, Melvin Lynch, 75, of was driving north on U.S. Route 221 when he ran off the road and hit a tree.
Lt. Judy Stiles of the Laurens County Sheriff's Office said when emergency responders showed up at the scene of the accident, Lynch pointed a gun at a deputy and another first responder. No shots were fired.
Lynch was taken to the hospital and was transported to the Laurens County Detention Center early Sunday morning.
Jail records show Lynch is charged with driving under the influence, unlawful carrying of a pistol, pointing and presenting firearms, two counts of threatening a public official, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and a seatbelt violation.
