Fire rips through apartment building on Beaufain St.

Posted: Updated:
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Red Cross is working to assist 18 people who were displaced after an early morning fire Sunday.

Officials say the blaze ripped through a three story apartment building on Beaufain Street just after 3:30 a.m.
Fire personnel say that it grew so rapidly that fire fighters had to be evacuated from the building before the roof collapsed.

According to witnesses, huge flames could be seen coming from the roof of the building.

It is reported that one person suffered minor burns to his face.

No word yet on what caused the blaze. However, officials are encouraging witnesses to email pictures and video to the Charleston Fire Department cfd@charleston-sc.gov. as they continue to investigate.
