Goose Creek alum and Newberry FB Rashard Alston has been selected to join USA Football's Under 19 National Team and compete in the World Championship tournament in Kuwait taking place in July the IFAF confirmed on Monday.
Alston, who just completed his Freshman season at Newberry, will be part of a USA team that will compete against teams from Canada, Mexico, Japan and others.
The former Gator didn't even earn a starting spot in high school until his senior season, but he would rush for almost 800 yards and 9 touchdowns that year helping lead Goose Creek to a 13-0 record on the field.
"It means the world to me to be able to compete in the game I love on such a big stage and having USA on my chest makes it so much more special" Alston told Live 5. "It's a surreal, and humbling feeling and I am definitely thankful for the opportunity to make the country proud".
Alston played in 4 games in his first season with Newberry registering 1 catch for 7 yards.
