Zagat spotlights top Charleston restaurants

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Zagat Survey, a restaurant ranking service that tracks popular restaurants around the country, released a list of the top restaurants in Charleston.

In addition to what it describes as classics like Husk, Fig and the Hominy Grill, the service spotlights eleven area eateries it encourages its readers to experience if they visit the Lowcountry.

Among the choices are North Charleston's Basico, which it describes as "local fare given a Mexican spin," and downtown's Edmund's Oast, a newly-opened brew pub on Morrison Drive. The survey also praises the Calabash-style seafood of Poogan's Porch, the Memphis burger at local chain Sesame, and the breakfast sandwiches from Two Bouroughs Larder.

Charleston is one of 33 U.S. cities Zagat tracks. According to its official website, the survey began in New York City more than 30 years ago and expanded to cities across the country over the years, tracking local diners' opinions of restaurants that matter most to them.
