MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) – Friday proved to be the perfect day to mix good food with great weather at the Memphis in May World Championship BBQ Cooking Contest.

Teams competed in everything from sauces and rubs to shoulders and ribs. USA Today Weekend rated Memphis in May World Championship BBQ Cooking Contest as America's number one barbecue competition.

WMC Action News 5's Amy Speropoulos talked with Benjie Williams from Team Pork-o-saurus about his love of barbecue.

"Our barbecue motto is ‘It's not a hobby, it's a barbecue addiction one backyard patio at a time,'" he said.

The competition brings hundreds of people to the Bluff City each year. It kicked off on Thursday night.

The competition started at 12:30 p.m. Friday and ended at midnight; gates will open again Saturday at 11 a.m.
