Grandmother, 2 grandchildren rescued after becoming lost in woods

A grandmother and her two grandchildren who became lost in the woods Sunday afternoon were located safe and sound a few hours later.

State Police said the 85-year-old grandmother set out for a walk Sunday with her two granddaughters, ages 3 and 4, near their home off Route 97 in Hampton.

Family became concerned when they did not return home after nearly two hours, police said.

Officials said the family believed they may have somehow gotten lost in a nearby wooded area that surrounds the home.

State Police with the assistance of a helicopter and a K9 search unit were able to locate the three about two and a half hours later.

All three were safely escorted out of the woods and reunited with the family.
