Checks to be presented to some Winston County tornado victims

Seven Winston County families will receive assistance at 3 p.m. on Monday at Louisville City Hall, in the form of $500 checks from the Foundation for Education and Economic Development, Inc.

According to Senator Willie Simmons, Chairman of FEED, the money will help families who have lost a lot, and in some cases everything, in the recent devastation of tornadoes that struck the state.

The families in need will be identified by Senator Sampson Jackson II of Preston.

"We think it‘s the right thing to do. At this time the families have financial obligations and we're just trying to do something for them to help them move on with their lives." Senator Sampson Jackson said.

Simmons drove to Winston County last week and donated 2,500 hot meals to families and volunteers courtesy of his restaurant, The Senator's Place in Cleveland.

He says that community members and supporters of FEED have made the cash assistance possible.

"Rather than soliciting supplies and food, which a lot of folks are doing, we will put the money into the people's hands because they need cash money now to buy gas and for other little things," Simmons said. "We want to extend our appreciation to those who have donated now or who may donate in the future."
