BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Several people living in Berkeley County are demanding to be repaid for the extra 22-mile detour they have to drive each day after a bridge collapsed over a railroad track.
More than 30 people have filed a lawsuit against CSX transportation. Last month, a train hit the bridge at Cypress Garden Road making it impassable.
The $2 million replacement project won't be finished until this fall, until then motorists will have to navigate a 22-mile detour.
A lawyer representing the defendants claims his clients are forced to spend five to ten extra hours each week commuting, and that equals more money on gas.
CSX had no comment.
