Citadel senior left fielder Drew DeKerlegand and junior first baseman/DH Bo Thompsonhave been named to All-Southern Conference baseball team for the 2014 season.
DeKerlegand, from Pearland, Texas, was selected to the first team by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association and second team by the league's head coaches. Thompson, from Mauldin, S.C., was chosen to the second team by both groups.
DeKerlegand is making his debut on the all-conference squad after starting all 55 regular season games and leading the team and ranking ninth in the SoCon with a career-high .340 batting average (66 for 194). He also has eight doubles, three triples, three home runs, 33 runs scored and 25 RBI.
He has put together a pair of nine-game hitting streaks this season and had a run of 32 straight games in which he reached base via a hit, walk or hit by pitch.
Over the course of his career, DeKerlegand has played in 224 games, the most by any active SoCon player, and has started 95 straight games entering this week's conference tournament. He holds the school record with 52 hit by pitches and is tied for fourth with 13 triples.
Thompson is on the all-conference coaches and media team for the second straight year. He is establishing himself as one of the top sluggers in school history, ranking in a tie for ninth with Garrick Haltiwanger with 25 career home runs including a team-high eight this season.
He finished the regular season on a hot streak that saw his average climb to .312. He is second on the Bulldogs in that category as well as RBI with 40, and his .465 on-base percentage is second in the SoCon.
A year ago, Thompson ranked third in the SoCon and 20th in the nation with 14 home runs and was selected to compete in the TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby in Omaha, Neb.
