Investigators: West Ashley house fire appears suspicious

WEST ASHLEY SC (WCSC) -

Fire investigators continue to search for a cause of an early morning fire at a vacant home in West Ashley, but say the blaze appears to be suspicious, according to Capt. Nathan Murtaugh, Fire Marshall of the St. Andrews Fire Department.

Fire crews were called to the 1600 block of Dillway Street in West Ashley, off Ashley River Road near Sam Rittenberg Blvd. after neighbors woke up to what the thought were gunshots around 3 a.m. Firefighters say the pops they were hearing came from the fire.

Neighbors say the home has been vacant for about seven years.

Anyone with information about the fire should contact the Charleston County Sheriff's Office at (843) 202-1700 or the St. Andrews Fire Department Fire Marshall Division at (843) 906-0365.

They can also call Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
