MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Construction on the Isle of Palms Connector Widening & Intersection Improvement Project has been completed just in time for Memorial Day Weekend.
Officials with Charleston County, the Town of Mt. Pleasant, and the City of Isle of Palms attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning to celebrate the completion of the project, which wrapped up ahead of schedule. The project, which began construction in November of last year, was initially set to be completed by the end of May.
The improvement project involved 1.3 miles of the Isle of Palms Connector. Crews added two through lanes in each direction from Highway 17 to just east of Riviera Drive, left and right turn lanes at all four intersections, and 4-foot paved shoulders for cyclists.
Officials say 82 new trees were planted along the project path.
The Isle of Palms Connector Widening & Intersection Improvement Project was funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax.
