Controlled burn at Joint Base sending smoke over N. Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A controlled burn at Joint Base Charleston is prompting many residents to report smoke clouds in the area of North Charleston.

Natural resource officials with Joint Base are conducting a "prescribed fire" in the Marington Plantation area from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The burn is being managed and conducted by trained natural resources professionals, according to a release from Joint Base Charleston.

Bianca Bourbeau with the North Charleston Fire Department says the smoke many residents have reported seeing in the area of N. Rhett and Rivers Avenue from I-526 is likely due to the controlled burn.
